The Heart of Virtue's Promise

Rev. Dr. Donald E. Williams:

As a biblical scholar, my published research focuses on fascinating parallels between Aristotle’s paradigm of virtue ethics and Christian discipleship. I completed my doctorate at Duke University under the direction of eminent Christian ethicist Stanley Hauerwas. In my book An Investigation Into the Relationship Between Aristotelian Eudaimonia and Christian Discipleship: A Thomistic Perspective (Wipt and Stock Publishers 2023), I  focus on one main interlocutor, Thomas Aquinas who wrote extensively on the subject of eudaimonia and its relationship with Christianity.  Essentially Aquinas takes Aristotle’s model and Christianizes it. Contemplation of the truth or contemplation of the Divine Essence become metaphors for Eudaimonia.  In other words, God is the quintessential source of  human flourishing.

I have published ten articles with Good Faith Media, exploring the intersection between Christianity and various social cultural and justice issues in postmodern society. My passion for justice in the American ethos has inspired much of my publishing in magazines.

As a fine art photographer, Capital One Bank has hosted two exhibitions of my photography and purchased many large pieces of mine for their permanent photography collection on display at their IT Headquarters in Glen Allen, VA. My fine art has also been auctioned at the Richmond Museum of Fine arts for the Beautiful Virginia organization.
